DBE Proposed 2025 School Calendar, public school time table south African department of education (DBE) Has just released the he proposed 2025 calendar for public schools, this new calendar will have many features and it will brought some changes from what is being practiced today though it just a proposal and members of the public are invited to submit their comments.

Features of the Proposed 2025 public school calendar

The Minister of department of Basic Education, Angie Mothshekga, has already gazetted the proposed school calendar for the 2025 school year. but we have noticed some changes compared to the previous one which is lack of different dates for start of school different provinces. 


  • Fist term schools will open 15 January 2025 for the first term and will close later on 28 March 2025.
  • second term 8 April 2025 to 27 June 2025
  • Third term 22 July 2025 to 3 October 2025. 
  • Final term commence on 13 October 2025 with the school year ending on 10 December 2025

Proposed 2025 School Calendar

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) previously used a staggered school calendar which saw learners in coastal and inland provinces return to start school on different dates.
